Strengthening local peace structures for peaceful co-existence.


The National Transformational Leadership Institute (NTLI) at the University of Juba conducted a five days training for youth peace committees in Matengai, Rumbek with support from UNDP-Peace and Community Cohesion project. The training was held at Unity Centre from 7th to 11th September 2020 under the theme “Towards Strengthened Peace Structure for Peaceful Coexistence”. The total number of participants was 18 (15 men and 3 women). Adult learning techniques and learner-centered methods were employed which included interactive lectures, demonstrations, group discussions, class presentations and storytelling which prompted information and experience sharing among participants. The training achieved its objectives as the participants were able to use their life experiences in demonstrating their understanding on key concepts relating to transformational leadership, gender, local and international etiquette, conflict mapping and analysis, conflict management strategies, envisioning a culture of peace, the power of influence, dialogue, mediation and reconciliation. The participant’s recommended UNDP-Peace and Community Cohesion project to continue conducting trainings seeing as South Sudan is a country that has emerged out of conflict, these trainings will boost reconciliation and nation building.
